Hosting 17.000 inhabitants and among other businesses the most important airport of Austria (VIE), Schwechat is a fundamental gate of Austria to the world. In 2009, Schwechat decided to be the first town who offers area-wide free Internet access via wi-fi to its citizens and tourists.

Overview

Loop21 realised 18 radio stations in several assembly steps to cover a very large area of the town with wi-fi. The team took the tasks of on-site evaluation and planning of the wi-fi infrastructure. Also, a solution for guiding the users on the new hotspot was found: Loop21 Citytainment™.


To give Schwechat the full legal protection, Loop21 became the Internet provider and operates the system. Using Loop21 Citytainment™ with Internet login module, security is guaranteed to the users, the provider and the city.


The citizens and visitors of Schwechat also get real-time location-based content. Through a Loop21 Landing Page, the latest news of city are available, as well as LIVE weather news and information about the hotspot.
Since Schwechat is offering wi-fi for free, Loop21 handles the operations, support of the users, maintenance and software update.
